Never kept a pair but that sounds worth trying. Set up some wood and rocks for sight breaks and territory and you got a shot at it working.

For what its worth i had 4 of them in a 75 gallon and the dominant female was intolerant of the other 3. She was like 5" always showy colors and the others looked mediocre at best, and half her size. You need a lot of sight breaks and i wouldnt go smaller than a 75.
