Crenicichla Strigata vs Crenicichla "Venezuela"

Apparently PetSmart periodically stocks a certain Pike Cichlid species which folks here generally identify as "Venezuela".

There are a few (seemingly reputable) postings on other sites (chichladae.com) that suggest these fish are the same or extremely similar to C. "Strigata".

Does anyone know the true taxonomy (if that is the correct term) for the relation of these fish?

strigata get eye spots on the caudal fin and right behind the opercle

venz have more of a blotch behind the opercle than a spot
