Hi guys, I am setting up a new 55 (Petco's $1/gallon) and am wondering if I can put my 4"-5" Sveni with some mbuna (mainly yellow labs and peacocks)? I currently have him with a Polleni and they go back and forth. With the Africans I have a firemouth (will be moving), a red tail shark that's giving them hell, a Tropheus Duboisi (which is doing quite good actually) one lone tiger barb (it help kill the other tiger barbs in the tank) & some fish that came in with a group of Jack Dempseys. For some reason my pike is not putting on any size since I got him over 6 months ago, even though he eats like a pig. He doesn't seem to have parasites, from what I've read. Thanks in advance for any help.

I wouldn't mix all fish together. It may work for a time but all those different cichlids from CA, SA, Malawi, and Tanganyika ate a bad idea. It may work short term. I wouldn't.

Its just not a good idea to put in pikes with Mbuna. I'd also not keep rainbow sharks with them. Tropheus could work but I'd stay away.

Really at the end of the day, its your tank and you can mix how you like. A lot of it stems from diet, size, and water chem but all of these fish are hardy enough to be able to survive in most tap water conditions as they are pretty adaptable (tropheus excluded since they like the more extreme hard water).
