My brothers went to a lfs and bought two xingu l pikes. They were special ordered from somebody but the guy never came and got them, so the owner of the store sold them to my bros. They look sweet and are eating like pigs. We don't really know anything about them, so can you guys please tell me a little more about the pikes? Thanks. :)

how many did you get?
what size?
they are awesome pikes IMO

Ya goober, he said he got two. . .

They are indeed awesome pikes. There are tons of pictures of adults around in the Crenicichla forum, especially in the ID sticky thread. ;)

They are in the Lugubris group of pikes, so they are one of the larger species available. Males generally max out around 14" while females rarely pus more than 12".

Females going to be much more attractive than males, with their bright burgandy red bellies, dark ends, and brilliantly white stripe in the dorsal fin. Males generally are a tweedish/green color overal. Not unattractive per say, but not striking. :)

That's great, thanks for the info. :) What's their growth rate per month?

lol ok you got me this once... i just skip sometimes when i read geez!!!!:screwy:

Generally they are going to EXPLODE with growth till they hit around 8", then they will just grow fast. . . lol.

Normally takes them about six months to go from 2" to 10". They are pretty fast growers, especially so if you feed them plenty and do lots of water changes. Be sure to fast them at least once a week though so they can be sure to digest all their food. :) Pretty much exactly like what you would do for the larger cats.

Thanks, you have been a great help. I'll make sure my brother gets this information. :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

I really dont know about growth per month... I know i had my babies and the blew up super fast... then i stopped feeding them when i went off to school. but they survived off of the few feeders my step father would buy whenever he felt like it... When they are young the look amazing... then they get a lil older and lose there bright orange appeal and you will probably be like WTH??? then they start getting blood red fins.. the males body turns black with bright red fins... and the female face turns black stomach and fins are red... and a lil black between the stomach and tail fin... looks sick bro

That sounds amazing, I can't wait until they grow!!! I have seen adults males online and they don't look as good as the females. But still, I wouldn't mind which sexes we end up with. Hopefully a pair though. :D
