hello everybody. i have been looking at herps for a while now, and i really love crested geckos. i was wondering if they are easy to breed or not. also, do they stink like leopard geckos? or are they fairly "clean"? any help is appreciated, and i will post other questions as i need to.:)

I second that Danyal. Any reptile will smell if you don't take care of correctly and not clean up after it. It's kind of like owning a cat and cleaning it's litter box out once a month. Yeah it's gonna smell but the more you clean up after it the less it stinks. As soon as I see gecko poo in my tank I clean it up. Fresh as a daisy is the way to go.:D

alright. its just that a few years ago i had leopard geckos, and i guess we didn't care for them probably, because they had a very noticible smell. thanks for the help, and any more is obviously appreciated.

Leopard geckos should never smell. If you had a problem keeping that cage clean, you'll have a much harder time with Cresties. They are an easy to care for species, and yes, relatively easy to breed- IF you know what you're doing and have done your research and KEEP THE TANK CLEAN. Cresties need a much higher humidity than leos and should be fed some amount of fruit/baby food in their diet. These two factors alone = MUCH smellier than leos if not properly cleaned.

. This part makes me nervous, to be honest. You don't really seem bothered by the fact that this problem was due to negligence on your part. If years later you still don't understand the most basic care requirement of the leos you had, and are so quick to dismiss it, maybe cresties aren't for you. In my opinion, Leos are the ideal beginner reptile. With any animal, you should thoroughly research care and maintenence BEFORE bringing them home. And honestly, the last thing you should be thinking about is breeding them. Do some research-if you decide to get some cresties, or ANY reptile, get one or two. Focus on caring for these before you even consider breeding. This is a much more intensive project than simply caring for yours as pets. You would have many considerations to think over that I don't think you realize. Hope this helped, and if you need anything else, I'd be happy to help!

geez. i was like 9 years old, and i can hardly remember it, but my mom was always complaining about th stink of the lizards. i know that we did clean the tank out every 2 days at least. and about the research thing, i have done a lot. i have found as much info as i can so far, so i decided to get some help from people with first-hand experience. so instead of wasteing your time writing all of that, maybe you should just help me out.

sorry you took it like that, i was trying to help you out. If thats the way you wanted to take it, I AM sorry i wasted my time. I DO have first hand experience, and thats why I was trying to help. I thought I answered your question thouroughly, with a little extra info than you asked for, and in a way to stress my point without trying to scare you off from the hobby. I've seen WAY too many people rush into herp ownership without the proper knowledge to care for the animals they bring home. I was just trying to help you out NOW as opposed to answering emergency questions a week after you bought them. good luck with whatever you decide to do. Cresties are great. And if you need anything else, and decide you'd like me to help, I'd still be happy to.

yeah herps only smell, with poor husbandry..
