Okay so of course it's possible for feeder fish to transmit disease to your fish, but can crickets or shrimp transmit any disease? Is this a stupid question?

i have fed my arowana and giant gourami crickets that i have caught from my garden and nothing has happen so far. So i dont think that the ones you buy from the pet shop will do anything to your fish since they are breed in captivity.

Except for pesticides, crickets are fine. Shrimps from markets pose very litle threat.

Be careful using shrimp, they sometimes spray it with a preservative that can be harmful to fish, make sure you rinse it well before use. This is more with fresh shrimp than the frozen variety.

I agree. I've never had any problems with either. Just be careful if you decide to catch your own insects. Make sure it's far away from an area that might have been sprayed with pesticides/herbicides. Those sprays can drift a bit.

Any living creature can be plagued by disease. In fact there are a few diseases that crickets get commonly. I worked at a fish bait shop for many years and there is a powder that bait stores sprinkle on the crickets before they transfer them from the boxes to the holding cage. The owner allways made us do it outside and told us to wear a mask and wash our hands directly after handling them and the powder. The other workers said that the cricket dust would make you sick. I do not know the name of the powder they just called it cricket dust.

do you actually have any evidence that shows it is harmful? If its dangerous to fish, I think its probably not so great for people either.
