Funny story. I hope I'm not the only one to ever do this. Anyway, I was at my LFS and they have a critter bar. This is a room that has feeders for sale of all kinds. goldfish, crickets, various worms, mice etc.. I decide to get some treats for my oscars and buy 100 xlg crickets. I get home and set the bag on top of the tank. I start dropping crickets in one by one and all the oscars are going crazy over them. I feel I've made a good choice. Anyway I end up giving about 25 crickets to the 6 Oscars in the 240 and save the rest for tomarrow. The bag they come in is about 12" x 24" and has a piece if egg crate for them in it so I decide they will be fine in there so I fold the open end under the rest of the bag. The next day I come home from work and discover that my wife must have fed all the remaining crickets to my fish without me being there to see it.
I find her and say "I wanted to watch the fish eat the crickets too" to which she replies "go ahead" She obviously had no idea what had happened. At this point it occurs to me that the crickets have escaped. So the next week or so is spent without much sleep and alot of cricket hunting. I found 50 +/- the first night, I even found them behind my fridge. The remaining crickets were loose in my house for the next week making their cricket noises all night. I would find a couple a night by following there sound till I could catch them.
I wish I had a pic of me chasing crickets to include here but I dont. 2 questions may come to mind now. 1 - why did I not just spray raid or the like? Well we live green at our house = NO pestacides. and 2 what happened to all the crickets after catching them? The first 50 got fed to the oscars that night. The rest that were smart enough to evade me for days got taken out to the garden and released. They deserved to live.
Its funny now
but I wont be allowed to buy crickets again I think.
O.K. Its your turn to tell me your similar story
