here's a good write-up if you're really interested:

That said, unless you have a MASSIVE Herp collection or simply can't find them locally, I'm with snakeguy & its gonna be more of a hassle than its worth.

If your going to breed bugs I'd get mealworms! easy as can be. Most people nurture them and pick out dead ones and give them fresh vegitables every 3days. I got 100 mealworms for $1 at a reptile show, threw them in a $2 shoe box and bout $3 worth of reeallly cheap a** oats and now 5months of patients (much less depending on temp.) And now i have 3000 of them and my herps are loving it. not a staple diet but if u ever slack a week or 2 on buying food its awesome to have back up. dont breed crickets. do the whole shoe box bit but go to a reptile show and u can get 1000 for $15 where iam. much easier.

If you want to breed something then try Dubia Roaches. By far the easiest, most nutritious choose out there. You'll just have to get past the fact that they're roaches. But they don't smell, don't make noise, can't fly, can't climb glass, give birth to live young, eat anything so gut-loading is easy, and can't survive long if they happen to escape.
