I've arrived home tonight only to find the blackbelt has layed eggs and the sinspillum is the only other fish aloud near it!! all the other fish are squeezed in a 2ft area at the other end of the tank!! can these fish cross breed?? What's happening??

They're closely enough related that cross breeding is a very real possiblity. As for "what's happening", they got it on.

Not only can they cross breed inter-species wise, but your Vieja's(both) can breed with almost any Amphilophus and Texas as well.I think a RM FH is a V.Synspillium X Texas. So yes your fish can breed together.Keep as much good big fry as you can house.I'm shure youll like how they look.

Breeding fish almost always cause problems in community tanks. Aggression goes through the roof. If it were me personally, I'd just let the fry get eaten (if they make it that far).

Depending on the aggression, I'd be inclined to add a divider to keep the parents from killing tankmates.

Yeah I would seperate the other fish leave the parents & young in the original tank.

Thank you for the idea, but this would leave me with a 6ft tank and only 2 fish in it......... the 2 new tanks i ve got coming are 3ft by 2ft by 2fts....... too small for the larger fish i currently have :irked:
