So I bought a few piranhas and this guy was in with them.(why the fins are so short at the moment) I agreed to take him with me. Took him home and threw him in an extra 55. He has some odd coloration I have not seen in any of the other jacks I have owned. Anyway he is on his 3rd spawn in about 5 weeks. I have a bunch of fry from him and a bjd. If he is a cross I am going to keep him just to see what all would be in him, if he has junk genetics (which I kinda think that's what it is) I want rid off him. anyway here are a few pics any help with this would be great (sorry the pics are kinda ****ty took em with the cell phone) the picture does not do justice to how much pink is on him lol

Unfortuantly he is junk, In breeding terms.
The rounded beak mouth is almost a dead givaway genetics have been altered most likely due to inbreeding. A trait you see often with EBJD.
The pinks are natural process that a lot of JD's go through before their base color turns dark. I thought I had some strange pink dempsey once, But then he grew up and turned black.
Again, hes not an ugly fish, Just not worthy of passing his genetics along.

Being a former EBJD and JD owner, I know a few things about them. And from that picture, how big is this fish really? The mouth seems normal to me, the older they get the rounder their mouth gets. And they get thicker also...although I may need a clearer picture at a different angle to really confirm anything. :)

How long would the base color take to turn? He is a hair over 9inches atm.

Sorry I cant really get clearer pics atm. cam is dead, all I have is the cell. What angle might help a little more?

No set size or even a garauntee that the fish will even darken up. My JD is extremely think bodied, probably because hes eats too much. He started getting shrimp around 6in. and his growth took off. The shrimp may or may not have contributed, but a month or 2 later he much more dark and probably 8in. Just an experience I had, Cant garauntee it. Looks like you have a grey backround. Light colored surroundings is going to promote him to stay light in color.
Its might not be deformed, Or inbred, but that picture really does suggest that. Some more pictures would be great to verify.

Tank lights off. Shoot at an angle to avoid seeing the flash reflect off the glass. Use flash. Try to get a good side shot with full fin extension.

The cell phone does not have flash. Might just run out and grab a new cam. tonight. Need to get a new one anyway. There is not much in the way of fins to be extended lol

The JD looks normal to me. As for the mouth thing, it looks normal to me.
