so in my 38 gal growout tank, i have a Labeotropheus fuelleborni who is about 4.5" and is just now starting to do his little "shocked" shake, and chasing all my other fish around. my other fish consist of a blood parrot, female kenyii, sulfur head peacock, venustus, c. moorii, and a jewel cichlid. he is even size with the venustus and the blood parrot is about an inch larger. could it be that he is looking to mate and/or is just being a territorial jerk? i don't think that any of the particular specie i have are close enough to breed, but i was just wondering what someone else thought. thanks.

First I really like your signature. Second read your signature ;) . I saw you used the word "growout" tank, but if your tape measure is accurate you best go shopping for a much bigger tank. 75g for now, but your venustus would love a 125g. Your Labeo boy is probably going to be king of the tank. Low probability of cross-breeding unless you see the kenyii going around in circles with him (she's blue right?). Hard to tell sometimes if the males are showing dominance or just trying to get it on. If he goes hyper-dominant then call the coroners office especially in a tank that small. Lots of rockwork or fake rockwork (like pvc) will help with hiding places for the other fish.

the tank isn't as small as the number. it's 36-12-20. and mind you my largest fish is about 4.5" the smalles is about 2". i know exactly what you're saying ;) . but i know what i'm doing. i've been doing this for years. i also work at my lfs so i have the luxury of bringing my fish in anytime i want. i've been wanting to transfer my 20 planted to the 38, and i think it's slowly going to happen with this problem. as the fish get larger and more territorial, i will bring them to work. and YES she is blue! lol. there is defenately a lot of rockwork in the tank. more so than a typical malawi tank. i'll get a pic up soon if you'd like. thanks for the feedback.

hey i gotta watch out for those "men and inches" posts... cause for a sex who are so good at building stuff... measuring isn't their strong suit LOL

:P

Haha, its ok Dane, I think as you keep going your fuelleborni will just get worse, I never really had any good experiences with them cause they are always jerks. There is a probability of you haveing it spawn with the kenyi cuase I had my fuelleborni spawn with a female yellow lab who was the tank slut and would spawn with anything. But as he gets bigger he will just get more aggresive as he goes whether he is trying to spawn or just taking over the tank.
