Hey, I was just at my LFS and I saw they had this great looking adult albino red oscar... In a 15 gallon tank!! I was thinking about getting him and moving him into my 200. What do you think I should do and have you seen big fish like this crammed at your fish store.

My LFS won't carry oscars!! Cause they don't want them back when they get to 15" I saw on craigs list a guy who was selling his 13" with a 20. So its out there. In the case of you Lfs They have to dedicate 1 tank for a fish that size and they start to loose money so the smaller the tank the better. You should save that poor oscar.:headbang2:headbang2

yeah i do, and partly bc thats bc people dump them off, esp oscars..and the pet stores do thier best to accomadate...the oscar isnt going to be in there long term, and if its a 15L adds extra length, so as long as it moves out quickly, i dont see a huge problem... as the fish are there to sell not to stay...if it was the other way around then it would be a problem.
Also, I disagree with Bllib, you aren't doing the oscar (a warm water fish) by buying it and putting it into your 200 ( a cold water tank) so I don't recommend it at all.

if your 200 is heated than i guess you could do it, depending on the sizes of the fish and your 45 seems pretty crowded.

post some pics of all ur fish here too

id love to get my hands on a 15 inch red. i had to settle for growing my own up, none near by at the time, my oscar tanks are all full up now unfortunatly.

i want an oscar, tiger

I'd go for it. You'll always have the reward of knowing you gave that guy a better life! I shelled out too much money for an Oscar rescue at the LFS but the poor guy was beat up in a 29g tank with five adult red devils. Since I brought him home his personality has blossomed and now he's a big show-off in his 90g.

Post pics if you get him!

I also meant to add that unfortunately some LFSs get a bad rap when they're trying to do the right thing. They're taking in an unwanted fish but they just don't have decent space to house it.

I say some LFSs are doing the right thing; others take in large Oscars just so they can over-price them to the next unsuspecting customer!

They also have to pay to feed it, which can be a lot of they are stuck with a 14 inch O for the next 5 months.
