Just wondering how long crushed coral will continue to buffer my tanks water? This is the first time I have found the need to buffer my tanks water. My heavily stocked "180 gallons of Silver Aros and Cichlids...31 pics" has had dropping pH levels since the addition of all the cichlids 5 or 6 weeks ago. The heavily stocking and the low KH of 40 to 50 ppm has triggered the pH drop. With seachems neutral regulator and a liter of crushed coral I've raised the pH from 6.2 to 6.6 over the last week. I would still like to get the tank closer to that of my tap water which is 7.4 pH.

Thanks all.

crushed coral should buffer to a max of 8.2.It will buffer for years, basically till it all dissolves

Yeah it lasts forever it will take a century to dissolve just keep adding a cup or 2 a day til the ph stays where u want it.

Thanks, pH is at 6.8 after todays water change. I'll read levels before next W/C and then may add more crushed coral.
