Crushed coral okay?

hello. I have a 240 hex and am looking for some unusual fish. I had an ornate a long time ago.... my question is crushed coral bad for them? His is the tank as it was setup for cichlids. Advice is welcome.

Most use sand because the Polypterus may not be able to pass the crushed coral if it swallowed some.

Crush corals makes the ph really high 8.1+
Poly likes ph around 7.0-7.6

I wouldnt worry about how high the ph is so long as its a stable ph. Polys come from some high alkaline bodies of water in africa

Id probably skip the ornate and get one of the smaller upper jaws for that sized tank

Agree with tlindsey regarding the sand

Tank looks more like a reef tank.
