So I set up a 29 gallon tank with crushed corral. I rinsed it for what seemed like forever, and then I put it in the tank. I filled the tank up with water, and it looks like milk. How long will it take for the filter to clear up the tank? The filter is a top fin made for a 30 gallon. The one that comes in the kit. (I plan on getting a better one later) SHould I jusr wait for the filter to do it's thing, or should I take out the water, and rinse the corral even more?

It should clear up over night.

I may never live this down...but here goes...I have a...gasp...this is SOOOO painful to have to type...AC70 on our 29 gallon with crushed coral.
Dont give me those smerks...It was laying around and I found myself short of emporer 280's....

LOL anyway I'd go with another HOB filter or a hydro4. Thats what I run in the 29.

I think I'm going to just put another top fin 30 on the back along with the one thats on there. They are fairly cheap, and seem to work good. As far as the murky water. If it's not clearer when I wake up I guess I need to dump the tank, and rinse that corral a little better.

What grade of coral are you using? I run #0...#1....and #3 in my tanks and have NEVER had this problem. I made a simple rince wand and let it run it in a 5 gallon bucket for a few minutes and then put it in the tanks.

The wand is nothing more than a piece of PVC pipe that's capped on one end and has a hose fitting on the other end. I drill a bunch of holes along the pipe....stick it in the media and turn on the hose for a while.

It's CaribSea Florida crushed coral. On the bag it says minimal rinsing needed. Yeah Right.

It should have a grade on the bag someplace. #0 looks like fine sand...
#1 looks like course sand...and #3 is larger..you can see some of the pieces.
I've never had to give any crushed coral more than a light rince.

No grade on the bag, but the pieces are about the size of safety glass pieces when it breaks.
