So this post has been up in the vendor section recently, where MrWinkle has been hooking MFK members up with crushed garnet sand. I was wondering if this stuff would be too coarse for rays.

Think it'd really make the ocher colors in them pop.

So far showcase gars says he thinks it'd be fine, but was hoping to get a few opinions. The sand is supposed to be fairly smooth and not sharp and not bad for fish digestion.

As always, thanks!

Depends on the grade u would opt for. The ones which Mr. Winkle used is pretty fine IMO. It should work. You bet the colors gonna pop :)

Oh man, I hope you're right. I'm disproportionally excited about this. I mean, it's sand. But I'm pumped!

Hahaha I hear ya bro.... I was excited myself to find red garnet ;)
The ones Rodney used were 30/40 grade if I'm not mistaken. That is pretty fine which will give a light hue as seen in his pics. This grade is advisable as it is finer. The ones I'm using are 12/25grade. I haven't faced any issues with these an my polys. They are all uniformly sized and have a darker hue due to their grain size.
I am planning on getting some Motoros myself sometime later. I will be housing them in the garnet tank :)

Like I said.... The ones Rodney have is as good as any fine sand :). Talking about the CGS. The MOHAWK grade I'm not sure. If they are both of the same mesh size then you have nothing to worry about. Cheers :)
