Crusty White Mark on Aquarium Glass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What kind of crusty white mark.. Is it build up? if so use a razor blade to scrape it off:)

i just wipe the glass with a duster or something similar and it will remove the water marks. if its a bit tougher, add some cleaner. there are specialist glass wipes too.

for the tough white spots I use a razor (on glass only)

Are you talking about the dried salt for marine tanks? I use a mix of water and white vinegar.

I also have this white 'crust' on one of my tanks and scraping it with a blade is gonna take forever!I don't wanna take my fish out but what other alternatives do I have?A good friend of mine advised me that I can use vinegar or lemon juice to remove it.If I use either of these 2,do I have to take the fish and the water out or can I do it while my fish are in the tank...with the water obviously?

I have scraped some pretty think build u off of a glass top relativily quickly with some water on the build up and some pressure from a razor blade.

The white crusty mark I was referring to are basically watermarks. You usually see them as water marks running from the top to usually the base of the tank. These marks are on the outside of the aquarium glass. They say these are mineral deposits. I maintain a freshwater tank. Can I use a mild soap to get rid of this?

Thanks!

use vinegar, don't put soap anywhere near your aquarium.
