in the river
i just got two red foots...they went straight to the breeder to me...when i got them the were in a 10gal with paper towel with food water and a uv light and lots of time in the yard ...two days later i have set up a 54gal rubbermaid with organic potting soil and feeding them kale, romaine, and dandelion greens with a dish to drink and soak in plus the uv light...i live in hawaii so the temp is in the 80's ...but i noticed one looks like its eye is glazed with water...i know thats not good what could i do to cure/prevent this...what could possibly be causeing it...the other tortoise is fine...thanks for any help...

Isnt it illegal to own anything in Hawaii?

Anyways, your new tortoise might just have something stack in its eye. Their also is another reason but I canot think of it right now...

you dont even know how crappy it is to be a herp enthusiast stuck on this rock people call paradise...yes theres lots of beauty to be seen here but aint no beauty to own here...leagally:naughty:

and no red foots arent illegal

Realy? I was watching a show "Hawaii's most UNwanted" and they said they confiscated every animal they find. KNoce it is confiscated, they showed their housings and they where dispicable.

Well I'm glad you guys are alouwed to keep something on those islands.

iguanas(thriving)
few monitors spotted in certain areas
poison dart frogs in valleys
wallabe
knight anole
golddust day gecko, red spot day gecko, madagascar giant day gecko
tokays (rumors of thriving)

these are all herps (excluding wallabe) that are popular to keep and have been smuggled onto the island and most are thriving well with rumors of tokays starting to thrive however monitors have been caught and spotted but no rumors or proof to be thriving...

So are Mongooses. Now thats crazy. Chameleons are also around. I can't think of any right now thow. hehe

Z

you can own and sell jackson chameleons here but none others and yes mongoose are thriving and arent allowed to be owne( but many of my customers have babies they have raised to be really tame)...

no more input on crying torts?

Could be vitamin a dfinciency. I have seen it cause swelling of the eyelids before. Try feeding foods high in vitamin A and soaking daily. Also, check around for "turtle eye drops". I think they're also called sulfa drops.

what sort of vegies are high in vitamin A that i could try feeding them...

try washing the eyes out with saline solution, artificial tears basically. it should, hopefully, wash out anything causing irritation.
