So I've done some reading around the forum and I think I have a pretty good idea but a straight forward answer would be nice. Some seem to think of them as a glorified 3 bar IT and some seem to think they're simply a lesser quality ST from a different location. Exactly what defines a CT and makes it different than a 3 bar IT? I'm not saying they're different fish but if they are I'd like a direct answer, or are they truly just a poor man's ST (3 bar IT)? I kind of have it but honestly I'm not quite sure. Pictures, if they are different fish would be appreciated.

I posted this yesterday in Shark Aquarium's thread

That photo is what is called the "siamese" dat from the Chao Phraya river in Thailand. They are said to be extinct in the wild and are only seen in monster sizes due to their age and the most sought after. These new guys are from the Mekong river which runs through Cambodia and Vietnam. Whether they are a true variant of D. Pulcher is what is debated, and will be debated until the end of time. It basically boils down to if your comfortable spending the cash, get it. If you have doubts that it's a true pulcher, pony up the cash and buy a Chao Phraya dat the size of a dinner plate.

I see, thanks a lot that simplifies it quite a bit. Anyone else have a take on the topic?

And if I may add, I don't think it's right to call them a lesser quality ST. 'Siamese' tiger is a common name for the classic Chao Phraya dat. If these new guys are in fact D. Pulcher, then they would be a geographic variant of D. Pulcher, and I guess you could refer to them as D. Pulcher sp. 'cambodia/CT'. Until it's proven scientifically, it's nothing but hobbyist speculation and educated guesses.

Gotcha, and my apologies I didn't intend to call it that directly, I was asking if that was considered a lesser ST or if it was a different tiger all together (IT). Sorry about the mix up I agree with you, still so much to learn.

^ you won't find any answers to any questions anywhere regarding small ST / 3 bar indo. Only arguments.
The Vendors that i trust at Chatuckak Market in BKK, people who been catching and selling ST, NTT for decades say that the big influx of "small ST" is a con, a trick, not real pulcher, but hand selected indos form the 100s of thousands that where available last year. Only big Pulcher can be bought.

interestingly enough i haven't seen any tiny IT for sale this year. Last year there were thousands of them in Chatuckak market, this year none.
