i guess this is post one.

im getting back into the hobby, i have 55g and am looking to get 2 Ctenolucius Hujeta(cudas) whats the max size for these guys? i googled around and some say that they will only get as big as their environment SOMETIMES. i was wondering what peoples experiences have been.

never ever believe that a fish will only grow as big as the tank it is in. This is called stunting, and is caused by excess ammonia, nitrite, nitrates, and sometimes hormones in the water. biggest i have ever seen in a tank was almost 24"

damn onion you are on the ball today. good to know. i keep reading around and found out they are easily beaten up. any ideas on what to put with them?

:D just waiting for my next class to start

any bottom dwellers should be fine. Try bichirs (they are awesome!!!), and some smaller South American cichlids. You can make an awesome planted tank with that setup

24 inches!
never seen one past 12!
they are seemingly unaggressive.
but trust me.
they are.
just nervous.
they ripped my aros tail.
thye grow slow.
usually get to around a foot.
mine ate anything.
pellets,shrimp,live,etc...
a 55 wont work for life.
theyll break their noses.

good to know. i was thinking about aros too. real nice looking fish. i guess as most of you all did i will have to experiment to see how things go(life lesson if you will)

I have one i keep it in a growout tank for my young fish. Mine is 8 or 9 inches now. Slow growing fish it only grew 2 inches in almost a year. Not aggressive but will eat decent size goldfish. They can get to 24'' in the wild but I have only heard around 12'' in a home aquarium.

wow, i'm an idiot. the biggest i have ever seen was 14 inches

that makes a little more sense :duh:

hey i appreciate all of your help on this.

at this point in time its looking like im still getting the to cudas and some unkown type/quantity of bichir.

i will gladly take any other suggestions to put in here. it would kind of suck to have only 3-4 beasts in there.
