I have a 55 gallon african river type set up(fake platns, small natural looking River bed pebbles, lots of Mopani Drift wood, some smooth black and brown large pebbles) with a Ctenopoma acutirostre or Congo Leaf Fish. With the Congo Leaf Fish, I have an African FeatherFin Catfish, African Brown Knife, Elephant Nose Fish, 4 Congo Tetra, 3 Rope Fish and the Wild card= A yellow Lab african Cichlid. Everyone gets along just fine, and i plan on adding a New Delhezi Poly, maybe even a senegal too(although two polys might be too much for a 55 gallon) and I am also trying to find an african butterfly fish that is already 3-4 inches. Anyway...I love my Ctenopoma the most, there are other types thought and i would love them for this tank, for example like the Kingsleyae or ansorgii among others....but will they get along with the congo leaf, which is about 4 to 5 inches now. I don't hear about or see much of the Ctenopoma except the bush fish. What about behaviors, tank size, and so on?

I hope they are ancient Fish so i AM posting this in the right forum because i don't know where else to post this.

Ctenopoma aren't an ancient fish, they are actually a type of anabantoid, like gouramis, bettas, paradisefish, etc. Watch out the polys don't end up eating the Congo tetras, african butterflys or ropefish (I had a 10" Senegal choke to death on a ropefish).

Ansorgii are really small. better suited for a "community" size tank (actually, the Congos would be good tankmates, as would the African Butterflys). Kingsley's ctenopoma are bigger and much tougher, I kept mine with larger polys, knives, etc.

Yeah i know the polys might try to eat rope fish or tetra, don't mind the tetra much, sorry for putting this post in the wrong place. but i don't really see a forum for it,

The Kingsleyea is one of the ones i had my eye on...but i wonder if it would get along with my congo leaf fish..in a 55 gallon?

I kept the two species together in a 90 gal...Kingsley's are much meaner I found. With enough cover it'll probably be fine.

I have plenty of cover...but on fishbase, they say the King can get up to 9 inches...is that true?

Here are some i am looking at: Ctenopoma argentoventer, Ctenopoma ocellatum, Ctenopoma weeksii, Sandelia capensis.

Hey flowerpower, thanks for the site, i saw Badis Badis on liveaquaria.com ...none at any store though.

Well, I'm sure that the 9" came from an actual record, but keep in mind most members of a species don't reach the size of the largest recoded. A Fishbase entry for humans would read Maximum Size 2.72 m...and how many 9'ers do you see walking around? I've seen them up to 6".
