My ctenopoma acutirostre is a true oddball, he prefers pellets over bloodworms! Strange huh? Any way to get him to eat blood worms?

Pellets are more nutritious than bloodworms. Any reason for the switch? Or just want to add to the diet?

May have to starve a bit. Earthworms will work better and lot more nutritious.

Isn't it a good thing for him to prefer pellets? :P

I understand wanting to give him a treat every now and then but if he doesn't like the bloodworms maybe you need to find a different treat. Brineshrimp, mealworms, crickets (if he's large enough) and daphnia (water fleas) are all nice treats for fish if you can find them. Also things like prawns and tilapia that you find in your supermarket freezer can be good treats for fish as well.

If it turns out that he only takes pellets I guess you'll just have to buy more than one kind and use one as "treats" and one as staple. :D

Idk how you could make him eat the bloodworms, or even if you could "make" him eat them. You might just have to feed the bloodworms to your other fish or give them to a friend for their fish. :)

I'll take the convenience of good quality pellets over the hassle and inferior nutrition of bloodworms any day.

Wow, I'm surprised yours would turn up any food in any form.
My Cteno was like this:

Yeah, just throw in some more variety for him otherwise and he should appreciate it - mine ate anything my polys ate... silversides, catfish, krill, pellets, earthworms, blackworms, etc.

Ctenopoma should really only be fed bloodworms once a week as too much protein isn't good for them, him preceding pellets over blood worms is good.

Wait, I thought they ate fish and insects in the wild? Shouldn't they mostly be eating meaty foods (if you exclude pellets?)

I know bloodwowms aren't that nutritious overall...

I might be misunderstanding you...

Oh sorry, I got confused. Gouramis are the ones that don't need to much protein not ctenopomas. Sorry for the wrong info
