I've got a 1" Ctenopoma in a 30 gal community tank that is mostly guppies and loaches. Is there any reason I can't keep him in this tank until he is big enough to move in to the big leagues (50 gal filled with silver dollar and Australian rainbow). I know he'll eat a lot of guppies along the way, will this be detrimental to his health?

Ctenopomas eat small fish in the wild so barring any diseases or parasites the guppies should not harm it.They are rather slow growers so that tank should suit the fish for quite a while.
