Cuban and Tropical gar hybrid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The trident on the head suggests Tropical along with the silver color, a green/gold color with a long stripe lacking spots suggests Cuban on the gars belly area, the tail with blotches also suggests Tropical.

haha if ever there was a cuban/trop hybrid...would sure look like that. smart money says a discoloured trop though.

Some updates. They have obviously gained spots, and the Tropical side of them is being exposed. However, unlike my "Mystery Gar" their patterns morphed, while the "Mystery Gar" was discolored. They still retain the yellow/green color

What does a juvenile cuban gar look like? I was thinking of getting one and wanted to be sure I don't get the wrong type of gar..

-this is definitely an unusual fish; initially i would have thought odd tropical, but it does show some characteristics of a juvenile CBG (such as the light dorsal stripe, which we see in ALG/CBG, but not in TPG). are there any recent pics?

i wasn't aware of any farming of Cuban Gars outside of Cuba, however, if someone is spawning them in the same area as TPG (which are spawned in several locations), the potential for hybrid production is there. obviously this would be an artificially created hybrid as this would not occur in the wild (no range overlap).

very interesting fish!--
