Well, no sign of the female.

I plan on finishing this in August.

Moving on, I found an old horse trough the dimensions are

H 22 inches

L 49 1/2 inches

W 26 inches

The corners are rounded. But That won't change the size to much.

I am wanting to have one male and three-four females. Will this be enough space? The plan is to have about 3 inches of potting soil mixed with play sand, have several plants planted in the enclosure (Any ideas on plans?), rocks and branches.

As for the lid and lighting I was going to cut a piece of plywood (30inches by 51 1/2 inches). Then saw 2 inches off all four sides of the plywood, and flip the cut wood to the underside of the plywood and bolt it. So there will be a nice top with a lip so it doesn't slip.

The light I have is L 22 3/4 inches by W 4 1/4 inches, I'll cut a rectangular shape out of the ply wood and staple some mesh wiring (Small enough that the anoles can't climb out.) over the hole and place the light over that opening.

Please read and criticize!

Thank you for you time.

If I need to describe anything better please inform me.

are you trying to breed them? why not just catch them? we don't need any more here in FL, they are killing all of the native green anoles.

Also, I don't think these guys need UVB or any special lighting. I could be wrong but it might save you some money to just use a regular shop light.

Hmm not sure, they're baskers, I'd think he'd want UVB especially if the plan is to breed them.

Are you planning on rigging a dripper or spraying them?

Some suggestions...they will cannibalize, so if breeding's the plan remove the young or you'll lose them. That size sounds fine, I don't ever recall seeing any kind of territoriality among females but keep an eye on it. They do best eating smaller insects, smaller than adult crix anyway...houseflies are ideal, or the bigger meat flies too.

No. My goal isn't to breed them, rather to have a nice group of gals for my current male. I was reading and the more females the merrier, as long as there is enough room. Males will have their territories set-up and they can have up to 5 females in their territory. Even though breeding them isn't the main goal I won't b stopping them if they do. Also all the anoles I will have will have been removed from Florida soil for three reasons: A. There is a lot of them B. They are free. C Why not help Florida by removing these invaders.

I work in the Ecology staff at my camp and we always have a $0.10 for for Brown anole heads... :screwy: Any way, I was going to offer $0.25 for LIVE Brown anoles hopefully that's where I will be getting my anoles.

I was also reading that they don't require UVB but it is good if you can get it. They also like to have UVA but that's not a requirement.

I have been feeding my big male just about everything I can find for him, I bought crickets for him because someone told me that they are a good food source for them, he has eaten everyone I put in. I'm not over feeding and I remove any uneaten crickets at night for safety. And I also have been catching house flies and removing a wing or two then putting them in for food.

I was going to take a mister that you attach to the end of a hose, Possibly cut out another hole in the ply wood for that And buy a timer for the hose so it will auto mist for me. Laziness. :D

Thanks for the tip.

And Thank you for your time.

They do need UV/UVB. To solve that, I simply put my Anole's tank by the window and leave the glass open during the day. Can't beat natural sunlight. Just be aware that you will use a lot of water spraying them :D They only drink water droplets off leaves.

Okay I'll get a UV/b bulb for their light.

UPDATE: Well I found my missing female!!! :headbang2 She was on my dog's crate of all places which is in my bedroom, and she started out in my garage.

The male seems to be happier and I have started cleaning out the trough and am getting soil in it soon. Pictures coming.

Also another issue was where to place the trough. I was simply going to put it under my bunk bed where there is plenty of room, but my parents would like it better in the garage. And I was thinking about putting it outside but wouldn't the metal get to hot for the lizards? Also the garage gets to 100 degrees in the heat of the summer would that be far to hot for the lizards?
