I might buy a female (about 4-5") on Friday for my 180 gallon tank but want to see what other peoples experiences are with that kind of fish. Also are they prone to anything in particular like bloat or something else
The other tankmates would be

6" female Salvini
8" V. bifas ( Rio Chacamax sex unknown)
5" male GT (gold saum)
3" Texas (possible female)
5" Firemouth
and 6 Electric yellow mbuna as dither fish for now

Would a female Cuban be compatible with those fish. Also once the Texas and the GT grow a bit more I'll get rid of the africans since I don't like overcrowded tanks.

Hey man Cubans are great cichlids they are pretty territorial and would be high in the pecking order of your tank if not the top.My Cuban currently hangs with a 6 inch wild Dovii to give you an idea of their toughness. Mine are very hardy have never had any issues with them even when under 2 inches. They have a lot of personality and great coloration and markings check out my photo gallery for pictures of my 4 incher.

I think the key thing here is going to be the temperament of your bifasciatus. bifasc. can be a highly aggressive species and yours still has some growing to do, especially if it's a male. I'm not sure how adding another really aggressive species like a cuban would go over as you've already got some pretty large growing bruisers in there. I'd keep an eye on the firemouth in the future as well. he's definitely going to be near the bottom of the heirarchy once all the other fish start to dwarf him and if they start picking on him he won't stand much chance against the bigger guys. :)

Never kept a single female of Tetracanthus, but I would never try to keep my pair with anything else. They are by far the most agressive cichlid I've ever kept, and I've kept quite alot of bruisers. They are really cool fish tough and my tip to you is to sell all your other fishes and get yourself a pair of Cubans instead. ;-)
