rescued this guy from a tank of Red Devils who were beating it up at the pet store. In a 55 now but gonna upgrade to a 120 soon. What do you guys think the sex is?

Little too small to tell, although could be a male (mottled dorsal,, and slight nuchal hump) but the black substrate could easily mislead. Most cichlids will try to mimic their surroundings when stressed.
Below Female tetracanthus are usually much darker (especially in the dorsal), smaller than males, and more sleek.

as you can see, mature males also have a much steeper profile than the more torpedo shape of the female.
