I just found out through another thread that Cuban Cichlids do not get as big as Jaguars, which I had thought. That they in fact get around 10".
Bgspizz suggested I start another thread so as not to hijack the other one. This (along with the true Parrot Cichlid) is one of the very few fish I've wanted very badly. But I thought they got too big.
I'm seriously considering getting one, I can figure a way to move around/move out a few fish to be able to put one in a 90 gal. I do know They're aggressive, correct? He wouldn't have any Cichlid tankmates but what about a Raphael or Royal Plec? Clown Loaches? Are they like Oscars in that they'll eat anything that even remotely fits in their mouths?
If anyone has any words of wisdom I'd appreciate it. Pictures would be appreciated, too. The only place I've ever found them for sale is through Rapps. Are they really that hard to get ahold of?
Thanks, I hope you can help.

There is a vendor or store near you with them....Trust me. I think they would do just fine with a rapheal (tried it) and Royal (tried it but those get WAY too big for a 90) and loaches (give them many hides and I have also done this with a cuban) They can be hyper aggro all the way to docile(just like any other cichlid) You would get more help in the sub-forum of CA/SA....Good luck, and good for you for not being too lazy to make your own thread! You are a good person Ksane. I do not mind helping good people at all...

I was googling them trying to decide if I should put them in CA/SA or where but all I found was they were from Cuba-geography is not my thing :-)
I can pretty much promise you there's nowhere here (Oklahoma) that has them. I've been to every fish shop and only one even carries Texas Cichlids.
The Royal I was talking about is an L191, (Dull Eyed Royal) they max out about 9" and grow real slow, the 2 I have are only 5" now.
Thank you for the compliment, I'm not used to such 'niceness"! You just may have to be my new hero of the month :-D

It is easy to be nice to someone who is instantly appreciative and willing to learn, AND willing to admit what you have been told is oncorrect...Shows maturity...I will admit I was wrong too...hahahah I thought OK was Oakland:screwy::ROFL: Oklahoma...Hmmmmm I'll have to think about it for a second...I think Nick at NE-cichlids should have NO problem getting them...He is close enough for the shipping to be do-able. I think rehoboth aquatics is in Texas...Toyin can get ANYTHING bro...Check out www.thatpetsplace.com They have them all the time for cheap.....Good luck.

Yep. You're officially my August Hero now. That gives me places to check that I didn't have 10 minutes ago. I haven't looked for them for about a year. ThatPetPlace.com is where I got my EBJD's, the only place I could find them, too.
I'll get on checking out the links. I truly appreciate it. Every time someone would ask, "What kind of fish do you want and don't have?" I'd always say "Cuban & Chocholate Cichlid". I finally got a Chocolate 6 wks ago and she's awesome. And because of you correcting me I might actually get my Cuban. Heck I know I will now.
I'm anxious to see if anyone else who keeps them will chime in.
Thank you very much.
