Hi all, Can anyone give me some info on Cuban Cichlids i Have a breeding pair in my 125g tank but can't seem to find any info on the net. Size, growth rate, aggression and tank mates if poss.

Thanks Steve.

These are also called Blue Cichlids. They are generally more on the aggressive side. Shouldnt be too hard to spawn in a 125.

I'll try and post some pix later.

Nice looking fish and those are decent camera phone pics. I love guapotes. Try googling NandopsisTetracanthus.

Thankyou for the tip, I've tried google but can't find anything about growth rate. Anyone got any hands on experience who can shed some light?

Steve

My experience.

My male Cuban grew up in a community tank with mostly Vieja's and held his own. It guarded a small territory but was not too aggressive. In 1 1/2 years, he grew fast and reached 8" but that's when it slowed down big time. I sold it a few months ago when it was almost 10". My female grew slower and was 4" shorter than the male at the same age. As a pair, they were very aggressive so I moved them in their own 100 g tank.

yes, they are Tetracanthus. Gorgeous, better looking than Jag's imo... G luck with them

I would say that in my experience the Cuban's aggressivness is well understated! My Pair are absolutley crazy and I have a spare male that is in with a Gold Jag, a Trimac, Some JD's and some Male Cons. The Runt Cuban runs the show! The Jag is about 2" bigger, The Trimac is about 1.5" bigger.

I would say that my Cubans Males are growing at about .5" a month. Not huge, slow kind of, but stocky and tough! The Females are about 1/4" a month.....Almost Half speed........

Carpediem has some great Cubans and in fact I got my pair(s) from Rob! And he is growing out some as well!

Either way I would have to agree that Cubans are fantastic looking!

Good Luck!
