Hi, i just picked up 6 cuban cichlid.,they are about an inch to 2 inches. The cubans are in 55 gallon fish tank by themselves and i have a few questions. I have read that they are very aggressive but i have also read that they are not as aggressive as most cichlids. Also what is their growth rate and how long does it take for them to become sexually mature.
Thanks,
Sam

As mentioned they tend to grow pretty slow. Conspecific aggression is VERY high. I grew out 5 in a 125 with several other fish inlcuding silver dollars and midas and they basically killed eachother down to a pair. But my pair was well bonded and there was little to no aggression between the male and female. Great fish to keep if I had the space I would keep them again. Also they are pretty damn nasty to other fish too. I would rank them up there with midas as far as aggression.

The first time I tried Tetracanthus they cannibalized each other out of existence. The females will start breeding at about 3", and even though a spawn may be close to 1000, the fry again, cannibalize the numbers severely.
1st spawn from this pair, she was just a little over 3"

I have a female Cuban that isn't even a year old yet. They're not slow, but not fast growers. I would say in between for growth rate.

This was her first day.
