MI.
For the past few days I've been searching around for info on the two.
I just picked up 6 young Freddies, which I believe are of the regular variant. They were labeled F-1,but the store owner couldn't come up with a collectionpoint of the parents. They are all yellowish though. The biggest one is about 3.5", with the smallest about 2".

I have them in my 120gal (4x2x2) with 5 Cuban ranging from 3-4.5" & I plan on adding a small school of Buenos-Aires Tetras later today. ( about 5 or so)

Filtration is 2 AC110's & 2 hydrosponge V's
Decoration is a whole bunch of driftwood.

My long-term goals for these fish are a pair of each, with the Cubans staying in the 120 & the Freddies going into my 95gal (60x18x20)
The 95gal has a batch of RTMs growing out in it now.

My questions are -
Do you see anything wrong with my 120 setup?
How long do you think the Cubans& Freddies will coexist in my 120?
How much different are Freddies from Dovii,Jags & Motas? I've kept & spawned those.

Please post your experiences & advice on both species.
Pictures wouldn't hurt also ;P

Also- the food I'm using is pellet mixture of any of the smaller sinking pellets you can find. ( Extreme,NLS, OSI, color bits, SS krill&spirulina, Oscar grow ect) supplemented with bloodworms ( dried&frozen)

I do have some beefheart. But, they haven't had any yet.

I wouldn't feed beefhearts. Mammal meat isn't easily digested by cichlids. Plus there are better alternatives like krill. I can't speak on the freddies but I know cubans are known for being really aggressive toward each other. How long have you had the cubans? They might kill eachother off until they pair. Cubans also prefer warmer water like low to mid 80's. I think both speceis are about equal as far as aggression. I would just watch them as they grow.

Here's my slowly forming pair of cubans. Male is 4in and thick. Female is probably like 2.5-3in. They do fine kept in a 125 with a pair of midas for now despite the fact my midas are nearly 6in.

I've had the Cubans for about 2weeks. There is a pair starting the form.
The Cubans do seem to like chasing each other around, more than the Freddies.

I do not see anything wrong with your set. The second question no one can give a definitive answer. It all depends on those particular fish. The third question is that generally I have not found them to be as aggressive as the dovi, not that hey can not be. I am quite sure somewhere one has sent a dovi running.
