in the last week my cuban gar has started laying on the botton of the tank.he comes up to get food but goes right back down to the bottom of the tank.he has never done this in past...any thoughts?
I've never had a cuban or tropical gar but all of my other gars will spend time on the bottom of the tank from time to time. As long at it's still feeding and active, I wouldn't worry about it sitting on the bottom of the tank (unless it's breathing hard and has a washed out color). I think they like to take a break from tanning on top of the tank.
funny...i thought this was the same gar that was "lost" to a friend's pond several years back...but has somehow been re-discovered...i could be wrong though.
in answer to your question, typical gar behavior--
