I got the advise to company cuban gars with my polypterus ornatipinnis. I have the possibility to get young ones (10-12 cm long) for 49 € per fish.

What you think, should i buy two or better one? What else must i take care for?

49€ per fish is really a steal. would definitely get a few!

also, would suggest making sure your supplier has got the right ID.

feel free to post any other questions!

He definitly got it right. Its the best online store we have in germany. He has several species of gars in stock. I like the cuban gars most. How much you think should i buy? Thats also a money question, i can´t afford to buy a swarm of them. Highest possible would be 3. But would they start fighting then?

Dam at that price I would buy like 6. You got any pictures of the Cubans that your online store is selling?

would get as many as possible. period. availability of these fish are few and far between. no, they do pretty well in groups.

Thanks for the advise. I´ll definitly will order 3 at the end of may. I´ll ask him to put them back, till i got money xD.

What makes me a bit nervous is what you write about water quality. Since it is an polypterus tank, the filter runs with low speed, not much i don´t know the english word, disturbance of the water. The flow is slow. Is that a problem?

looking forward to pics when you get them! definitely post pictures before you order though, best to check the ID of the fish!

low current in the water is fine, but i would at least ensure that the tank has a good turnover rate. definitely bump the filtration if you are able to; cubans get big and produce lots of waste.

I can't see these being cubans, not at that price. Unless there is someone else that is now bringing them in. If you can, post some pictures for identification.

it's definitely possible that others are bringing them in, as there are many sources that receive their supply from the farm in Cuba. that being said, you're right, at that price it is suspect that they are Cubans, but i suppose it's possible. a photo for ID would definitely help...especially since SNGs can look a lot like CBGs...or even small gator gars. interesting nevertheless--

You're waiting till the end of May to order! Good luck with that, they go like hot cakes! I've been trying to get one for YEARS and they always seem to appear and disappear when I'm not looking...
