I know they say that it's extremely hard to tell between a male and female cuban. I have 2 that are roughtly 3.3-4" Both have a lot of pattern and color but unsure if male or female. Do fins tell anything about sex? One has a dorsal that's starting to become pointy and the other fish has rounded fins.

I have never seen a cuban with really pointy fins. I would say they are almost roundish. Plus that's a poor way of sexing cichlids. Venting is the most accurate way but typically maturing cuban females will show much bolder black than males. Here is an old pic of my pair to show you. The female is in the front and the male is in the back. You can see how the female has a lot more black while the male has almost a manguense type pattern going on if that makes sense.100_0779.JPG
