I have some questions about breeding Cuckoo Catfish. I am about to get a breeding set up and am considering these guys as one possible species to breed.
From what I know, you need to have mouth brooding cichlids in the tank with them, and these cichlids need to be mating at the same time.
I have also heard from and read online from breeders that the cichlid will not always pick up the eggs. But they were able to get the eggs out of the tank before they were eaten by other fish and still managed to have them hatch and raise the fry.
1. What size tank would I need and how many cuckoo's would I need?
2. What is the best cichlid to use? I am assuming the bigger the mouth, the better? How many of these cichlids would I need?
3. Do I really need cichlids in there? If the eggs will still hatch and the fry grow without being held by a cichlid, is there another way to make the Cuckoo's breed w/out the need of the cichlids mating at the same time?
