my 7-8 inch barracuda killed my 8 inch needlenose gar this morning so i was wondering to replace him would my yellowtail be fine with a altus the same size or a marbled gar?

WOW! Highly aggressive cuda you got thier. Did you witness this? I've honestly never seen any Cuda kill anything it wasn't gonna eat. Did he bite the heck outta the false Gar or just chase it til' over stressed?

mine was good as gold also, gets a bit funny if someone was to come to the surface lol but otherwise just bobbed along the top.

i could see a yt killing a small fish that it thought it could eat, but nothing larger. I must agree with otherone.

cuda bit gars tail and back part of body since could fit in his mouth like the whole silversides i feed him and shredded gars fins and gar rammed into glass and heater found him dead stuck between glass and heater in the overflowbox corner barracuda has bitten gar before for same reason mistakeing part of the gar as a silverside but would a altus or marbled gar do fine

Well I guess both should work in most cases however your situation is a lil' unique. I'd be cautious about any fish that has body parts that can fit in your cudas mouth. You'll probably need to get them larger than the cuda - growing them out is probably out of the question seeings how your cudas only half grown it's self.
