Anyone else grow out a fish they know they should probably cull? Would you guys cull an mature fish with deformed nostrils or just carefully monitor who is spawning with who in the group (multiple males and females)? I hate doing it TBH...

If it were me I would remove the fish from the spawning group. I do not think I would cull it, but I would for sure move it to an aquarium where it could not spawn.

Up to you really...do you plan on selling the spawn? If they're just going to be eaten, I couldn't see the harm but that's me

I try to do most of my culling when the fish are still small. I have a few adults with deformities that I can't bear to part with, but I don't let them spawn.

I've culled fish that I didn't notice had issues till 6" plus. Hard to do but necessary.

This is after I tried unsuccessfully to give them away.

Unless you're breeding for profit, I vote against it.

And even if you are... who in her right mind would breed with the deformed one anyway? Give your females some credit :)

I agree. I would find it another home(people on craigslist will take anything for free), or if I really become attached to it, I would put it in another tank, where it would be unable to breed.

Thanks for the feedback guys. My wife has a thing for this little female and when I told her what needed be done, she went nuclear which never happens and kind of suprised me. I know why though...

I guess I will have to move it to the 300 which I really didn't want to do.
