i have recently had very good luck in breeding my flowerhorns. my question is what qualities should a fry posess to be grown out as a grade A fry?? i have blue dragon fry as well as golden base x tri-thong. any help would be appreciated. :WHOA:

Look for the qualities that you like. What I do is pick the largest fry out once they get 1/2"to an 1" long, cull the rest. Con to this is that you miss any chance of getting a Bonsi this way. You also cut down on number of females. Pro you cut down on the number of fish. Then once they get two inches start looking for pearls, flowerline and color. Cull the ones that have the best pearls and color. Then after about two and half inches cull the ones you like the least. I cull mine a little at a time, because I use the culls as feeders. Fins will start about three inches or more.

If you have some fry that look good but don't have room for remember the people on MonsterfishKeepers.com :woot: :woot:

Good luck keep us updated on the fry. especially on the tri-tong( they change color later in develolpment I believe)

Excellent. Keep the breed going my friend.

DAMN YOU... and your Hybrids.... ok contact an asian breeder and see what they breed for. Then copy it.

general breeding:like e!o!z! said you want to get rid of the slow growers weaker fish first that way
by the time you can start seeing colors you have a manageable # to work with.then start selecting for what you want.use the culls as feeders or sell them.

FH are awesome fish. Glad the price has come down on them. I feel sorry for the people that spent 2k for a pair. As it was said before get the strong healthy ones to grow. If your going to inbreed then use father daughter combinations, less you should buy another one from somewhere different to keep blood divergent!!!

when culling Electric Blue dempseys...what too look for? seems the blue ones are all smaller than the normal fry
