Im putting this in the plant section because its really a plant question, even though its in a small pond.
'
I have a 150 gallon indoor pond made out of one of those black plastic pond liners.
I have it drained for the winter and have the fish in smaller tanks that are easier to heat.
but I was wondering, I do have two 250 watt hydroponic heaters that I took out of my tanks because they are made out of a metal that started to collect rust. So I was wondering...

Could I use the pond during the winter to grow some kind of algae that I could feet my fish?
I was thinking I could dump water with fish waste in there and clean it occasionally.
The pond is lit by one 4 foot 2 bulb shop light fixture with cheap plant bulbs
but I do have another one I can add if needed.

And if this can be done, what would the best plant/alga to use with it?
I breed average south american cichlids, some of which are omnivorous.

thanks

It is possible to grow algae indoors, but difficult to get just one type of algae to grow. For what it would cost you in electricity, it would be cheaper to just buy a good spirulina flake or pellet. You can also feed your omnivorous fish vegetables like zucchini, squash, pumpkin, peas, green beans, or cooked carrots.
