How would one go about curing large pieces of driftwood so that it is fish safe? Ive heard of boiling, baking, bleaching in a bucket and what not, but what do you do with the pieces that are simply too large to use these methods?

I live along the Ohio River and there are tons of nice pieces of driftwood and I want a really big piece to fill out my 6foot tank (I want one that can reach from the upper left hand side of the tank and branch out and end at the bottom right hand side much like a tree that has fallen into the water). Ive thought about using a bug sprayer and spraying it with a bleach solution several times and then rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse. Is there any thing else I could do?

Soak it in a kiddie pool.

Hmm...sounds like a good idea, they are cheap and who knows if I get it for that I could end up convincing my wife that instead of throwing it away it would be a perfect habitat for x animal!

Large troughs or drums are good for this.

Nice steel stock tank, boil it in it (just build a fire underneath). Then you can turn it into a nice garden pond...
