i know its is a newbe question but ive never really been clear on why you "need" to cure liverock. is it just to keep nitrates down from die off or to keep pests out or both? i peonally like un-cured because of all the life that is on it... after all isn't that what you are paying for when you buy "live"rock

so that the tank cycles..

also it's unavoidable.. uncured rock will always cure..

I partly agree with you, I buy live rock because its !!LIVE!! , however, its also DEAD. uncured rock has all sorts of dead creatures in its cracks and crevases, If you stick too much of this in a tank you have already stocked, your current bio wont handle all the junk so you get dead fish. On the other hand if you just stick it in a new tank your gettin ready, and let it run til the spikes go away then test your nitrates, phosphates etc. and its good youve served 2 purposes
