Over there
I read the behavior sticky but didn't see anything about this particular one. I noticed this morning that whenever my endli would swim by my lap, the lap would start flaring its dorsal spikes, then flap them side to side extremely fast as well as the pectoral fins. Is this some type of defense behavior? I first thought it was some sort of breeding behavior but the lap is a female, I think, and the endli a male so I always thought the male was the one that initiates first.

Maybe it's some form of communication? Like a warning to back out of their space? I've never seen my polys do that; usually they just snap at each other if one gets too pushy.

hmm could you have missed the male initiating? i wouldnt be surprised if it was that or like Bacon said, it could be like a GTFO FOOL kind of a thing

I may have missed it but I'm also not quite sure what a male initiating looks like.

They have an entire 150 to themselves right now and they've never snapped at each other or showed any aggression but it definitely could be back the f*** off type of behavior. I just thought it was cool cuz I've never seen any of my polys do that before but today I see it 4 times!

So I just came home to eat before I have to go back to class later and it looks like it might actually be breeding behavior! The endli was doing all sorts of movements I've never seen before and when the lap tried to swim away, the endli would chase after it. Does anyone know exactly what their breeding behavior looks like? It'd be pretty cool if they did breed but I have no idea how I would raise the eggs and babies if they hatch.

Nice!! id look it up, if you could even get a hundred or two hundred viable endl x lap hybrids you could make a good bit of store credit build up by trading them in LFS, or even Aquabid some off and you can make some money. When i get a good batch of nice looking molly or platy hybrids i save some from being feeders and trade em in for some store credit for other types of food i would have spent real money on anyway, so its a win win whichever way you go!

If you see the both of them shimmering side to side, look at the males anal fin he will form a cup with it, next he will fertilize, and finally scatter them on plants or substrate :). If this is the case order micro worm cultures asap, while your waiting for the worms learn how to hatch brine shrimp.
