Are Black Ghost Knifefish and Fire Eels compatible with CA/SA Aggressive Cichlids? I have a Female Festae, Male Green Terror, Ornate Bichir, and a Flagtail and was hoping I could add either of these guys. Currently, these fish all range at about 5-8" and have good temperament. I have seen Fire Eels with Managuense and other large aggressive Cichlids, but I wanted some assurance that it can work in a 135 Gallon. I admit, I am concerned that the Black Ghost Knifefish will get its rear electric sensor bitten off as I have previously seen happen. I have previously kept a Black Ghost, but this was way back at the beginning of my hobby and I found it a new home after it took a chunk off of one of my Angelfish.

I should also add that I have a lot of hiding spaces in my aquarium, great places for an Eel or Knifefish to reside.

All input is welcomed and appreciated.

I had BGK and oscar together for years with out a problem. I was most worried when they were both small because my oscars were growing much fast then my BGK but i never had a problem. In the end they were both about the same length 12"+. If anything my O was scared of the BGK. Just make sure you BGK has somewhere to hide such as a pipe or log. I used to hand feed mine to make sure he got enough food

I would probably be getting the BGK smaller than a majority of the fish I currently have, but I know that they do grow fast. The Fire Eel is my other option, but BKG is the preferred choice as they are from South America. My hope is that I can provide it with enough hiding places that it can go unnoticed and still be too large for the Ornate to swallow or the Cichlids to pick at.

Other thoughts?

I have a Fire Eel in with EBJD, and Super Red Severums... I have had no issues at all, and he has been with them since he was 5 inches, he is now pushing 13+in.... Although there is aggression amongst my group of EBJD, they never mess with the fire eel... I have a Tire Track eel in another tank with much larger cichlids than him and he/she has done great. My cichlids never bother the eels....
