so i have a school of 4 gold macs and they are either the most docile serras i've ever seen, or just so mean that they look kind. but the question just popped into my head. if you have a successfull school of serras (mine have been schooled for almost 2 years with no casualties) could you throw in some pygo's into the school. kinda a dumb question but im just rattling off some thoughts i have no intention of trying... yet :nilly: LOL. that was a joke. what do ya'll think? i've have had schools of tetras with my piranhas many times and they even grew up with 4 convicts which were adopted into the school. took a year and a half for the piranhas to eat their cichlid brethren. so you can see where my curiosity arises from.

what are your thoughts?

i have no intentions of trying this. don't worry.

no flaming, no yelling at me asking why i would do such a thing nothing? lol c'mon. someones got to have some input!!

i don''t think mac's are serra's..so you could maybe you can throw in a slightly larger pygo for the co-hab..not a expert but i heard it was done before..

i think the pecking order would change too much to see the same type of harmony if you aren't raising them together

finally some chime in lol. its just a curiosity deal. i had no plans on it, unless i saw alot of people in here thinking it was possible. me personally i don't. agea, macs are serra's. full name serrasalmus maculatus. a less aggressive of the serra family, but still a nit picky piranha (that last statement comes from experience) i mean i have seen pygo-like- characteristic's like the schooling factor, their eating habits, take a chunk and let the next in line move in. in all honesty if this were attempted i would be more worried about the macs as they are puppy dogs. i love em to death and would never risk any harm to them.

but you can't tell me you never wondered what a docile serra would be like with a pygo. and if you haven't then i guess im just weird.

i have, i've just been around here long enough to read all the failed attempts. until i start seeing a bunch of successful long term attempts (must last more then a couple months), i'm going to believe it can't be done

anyone wanna fund me for 5 red bellies? lol ill try it haha. just kidding. i think it would be a pretty neat project, see the long term relation ship when serra and pygo's are raised together from the same size. i mean it could be fatal for one of the species (more likely the pygo) but alot of people told me schooling my macs was going to be difficult too. and they are going on 2 years and i have not lost one yet. raised from one inch to almost 6". this project seams like something that would have to be constantly monitored tho, everything observed and recorded. ah the possibilities. i need to get my mind out of this. it could end bad.

sorry just thought if you have a shoal of 4 macs maybe a pygo can be introduced since both co-hab in a shoal..

yea, thats the idea, but the genus types are different, and typically serras are not schooling fish, thus why pygo's don't mix with there more aggressive cousin.
