I saw a tank full of 2 inch channel catfish, and I was always curious as to what tank size one would keep them in. I have a 360 gallon pond, the average depth being 8 inches, and the deepest being 14 inches lol. I definitly won't get one since my pond is shallow and I have no large tank for him/her in the winter (Im from Saskatchewan, Canada), but I wanna know for the future, as I plan on having one when I have my own place. Btw my pond is shallow due to two trees next to the pond. If you dug any further all you would hit is roots :irked:

You're right. Pond is too shallow for a channel catfish. Channel cats don't get HUGE, but they will get decent size and are very active. I personally wouldn't go any smaller than 220g for a channel to grow and move in. Others will argue, but I've had a thing for that fish my whole life. They prefer a lot of current also.

To put it in perspective, I brought one home to rehabilitate a week or so ago. He got beat up by a boat, or ***hole fisherman and was swimming near the shore at the top of the water. He was 15" long and way too big for my 125g. I was able to get him healthy, but no way would I have kept him in there. One whip of the tail and that dude went from one end to the other.
