ok i have a question about my water conditions. every week i do a 50% water change,i usually check my parameters once a month but 2 weeks ago i added some new stock and thought i should check , so my parameters are as follows, ammonia 0,ph 76,nitrites 0, nitrates 0-maybe 2?, my tank houses 4 juvenile flowerhorns, a raphael cat, a blood parrot and 2 adult(very large) Oscars. why do you suppose my nitrates are 0? and i am running a Fluval FX5, was thinking maybe i should just do a vacuum only today and check again in a couple days? fish seem fine, very active and appetites are voracious!

IDK.... I have the opposite. Two large oscars, and a common pleco in a 180. Ammonia 0ppm nitrite 0ppm nitrate up around 80-160ppm with two 50% water changes a week. I don't over feed. I'm under filtered at the moment while I'm building my sump. I checked out my tap water for nitrates and they are 0ppm. I have well water. Maybe you have an old test kit.

let me guess(not judging)deep gravel bed and a well seasoned tank?

It is very possible that you aren't performing the nitrate test properly.

How long has the tank been setup?

What size is the tank?

Which brand test kit are you using?

your params are hard to figure ...I would say re-test with API kit..AND follow instructions word for word.....
you would be surprised by how much results change with even slight deviation
