Came home from the long weekend to find my Stripped Spiny Box Puffer dead:cry:.. He was fairly rotted out... only about 4 inchs but i'm worried he destroyed my nitrate level because I noticed my yellow tang has a bit of ick now ... However everything else in my tank seems healthy... I did a 50% water change and put afew capfuls of Prime to remove nirate. What else you guys think i should do? Besides find a new show fish for my 55 galon tank.

55 gallon is on the small side for most all sw puffers. Keep up on the water changes and things will settle out. Test the ammonia level and nitrite levels as well to make sure nothing else is elevated to dangerous levels. Water changes should be all you need. Another wc tomarrow should do the trick and if not give it another day and do another smaller wc.

should the dead box have given off a fatal dose of tetrablahblah toxin?

ANYway, a sharpnosed puffer or a filefish could make for a nice replacment..

and yes monitoring params and doing WC's is prolly the best bet right now

No nitrite or amonia but my ph went down a bit... i did another water change so we will see... i got a dwarf lion fish as a sub... i might get a small puffer toby or something though we will see.
