Will a mature male ray that has bred before and knows what he is doing attempt to breed an immature female?

I am not talking about biting the disc and such as I know that just goes with the territory. I am talking about lifting the tail and trying to flip the female. I am trying to figure out whether one of my males is "jumping the gun" or whether the female is actually mature.

i've heard this can sometimes occur. i cannot say i have personal experience as my rays are still immature and they have not begun mating.

if this is the case, you might want to separate the rays, since the mature male would be quite larger than the female and could cause some real damage or even death.
