i wasnt interested in breeding really but curiousity killed the cat. i just bought a 75 gal and originally wanted a salvini pair community show tank but breeding cichlids is starting to interest me more by the minute.

my latest idea was to have a breeding pair of salvinis. and also having a divided portion of the tank with a breeding pair of convicts. just these 4 fish. ive had convicts breed before in community setups. but i would like to possibly use offspring as feeders as well as selling them to lfs to gain store credit.

how many people do this? how complicating is the process, time comsuming, and expensive is this idea. i was thinking of finding next to nothing 10gal sales on craigslist to keep offspring in. i also know a guy who has $600+ in instore credit that he will buy equipment for me at lfs for at least half of retail price.

The Convict part won't be too difficult nor costly. Breeding Convicts can be as simple as tossing a male and female into a tub of water and waiting. My friend's breed in an esky when he had nowhere to put them. Go figure.

You should get a male Convict and three females, let them pair up and either sell the two extra females, or leave them there for the pair to take their aggression out on.

Donno about Salvinis tho.
