Hand feed him shrimp, ocasionally med rats(for friends, pretty cool stuff). He will eat a nice big(8-9" bluegill) everday..Thats a summer diet from this hidden pond by my house. Shrimp is the staple. I think that I will get bit someday, I don't know how the fish can be so gentle, and so visious if the food is dropped in, I mean he will eat 5 pieces on the way down. But just take it from your fingers. Odd, and stupid for me to do, but its a rush when you leave it about 1/2" totally out of the water and he SUCKS it out of your fingers. When the fish exhausts its lungs, you can hear it in the basement (about 60ft)

My big buttikoferi is similiar.. He will voracious destroy any 'dither' fish I try to add to the tank, as well as annihilate feeder fish, only to 'spit' them out in disgust.. He will attack freeze-dried krill off the top of the water with haste, and chomp up shrimp like it is nothing..
But if I hand feed him he slowly comes to the top of the water, opens his mouth wide, and puts his lips out of water to 'gently' take the food.. Kind of like a dog
What is funny, if I am not paying attention to him and I 'rest' my hand on the side of the tank, he gets pissed and chomps HARD.
